JLPT / NAT Language Levels

Both the JLPT and NAT tests are divided into 5 levels, from N5 (easiest) to N1 (most difficult). Here is a breakdown of what each level means.

Frequently Asked Questions

JLPT is held only twice a year (July and December) and is globally recognized by universities and companies. The NAT-TEST is held 6 times a year, is similar in format to JLPT, and is primarily used by language schools to issue Certificates of Eligibility for student visas.

Yes, most Japanese language schools and immigration authorities require you to have at least a 150-hour study certificate or an N5/NAT-5 pass certificate before granting a student visa.

With our standard courses, a dedicated student can cover the N5 syllabus in about 2.5 to 3 months of daily classes. Intensive batches can complete it in 2 months.

It has three alphabets: Hiragana (native words), Katakana (foreign words), and Kanji (Chinese characters). While Kanji requires memorization, Hiragana and Katakana can easily be mastered within the first two weeks of our classes!

No, the JLPT and NAT exams strictly test Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar, and Listening via multiple-choice questions. There are no speaking or essay writing sections.
