What is the Digital SAT?

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. High school students take the SAT to show colleges what they know and how well they can apply that knowledge.

As of 2023 for international students, the SAT has transitioned to a fully digital, computer-adaptive format. A high SAT score is critical not just for getting accepted into top US universities (like the Ivy League), but it is the primary determining factor for massive, sometimes 100% full-ride, merit-based scholarships.

Test Format in Detail

The new Digital SAT is significantly shorter than the old paper test, lasting just 2 hours and 14 minutes. It consists of two main sections.

Reading and Writing (RW)

Features short passages, each tied to a single question. Tests comprehension, vocabulary in context, grammar, and editing skills across literature, history, and science texts.

Yes, you must bring your own approved Windows laptop, Mac, or iPad with the Bluebook application installed and fully charged. The test center provides the Wi-Fi.

Each section is divided into two modules. Everyone takes a mixed-difficulty first module. How well you do on the first module determines if your second module will be easier or harder. You need to reach the harder second module to achieve a top score!

No. The College Board officially removed the optional SAT Essay section entirely from the global Digital SAT.

You can take the SAT as many times as you want. Many students take it 2 or 3 times to maximize their scores, and many colleges allow "Superscoring" (combining your best Math score and best Reading score from different dates).

Ideally, you should take it in Grade 11 or early in Grade 12. This gives you time to retake it if necessary before US university application deadlines (usually around November to January).
